Canaries an Atlantic Ocean
Cruises to the Canary Islands are very popular in winter due to the mild climate. The journey is manageable with a flight time of 4 to 5 hours, and even in winter, travelers can look forward to sunshine and pleasant temperatures. There are typically two main routes for Canary Island cruises: they lead either to Madeira, Morocco, or to Cádiz on the Spanish mainland. While the Canary Islands offer a diverse but rugged landscape, Madeira is a lush, green island perfect for "levada" walks. Morocco adds an oriental flair to these trips, and Cádiz exudes authentic Spanish charm.
Most Canary Island cruises start in Gran Canaria or Tenerife. You can book an arrival and departure package through the cruise line if desired, but it’s also easy to organize on your own. On both islands, there is the option to book a shuttle or use public buses.
In Tenerife, bus line 111 connects the airport with the port, with departures every 20 minutes. In Gran Canaria, several bus lines run from the airport to the port. We used bus line 60; from the Santa Catalina station, you can already see the ships, and it’s about a 15–20 minute walk to the terminal.
