Lanzarote
Lanzarote is the fourth largest of the Canary Islands. It is 58 km long and 34 km wide. Lanzarote has about 150,000 inhabitants, with nearly 60,000 living in the capital, Arrecife. Lanzarote is located just 12 km north of Fuerteventura.
It is one of the most beautiful islands in the Canaries; thanks to César Manrique, whose influence can be found everywhere, Lanzarote was largely spared from architectural eyesores. He is responsible for the fact that no hotel is taller than the island's palm trees, ensuring that Lanzarote remained largely protected from mass tourism and that the houses are kept in brilliant white.
Der Hafen
There are two cruise ports in the harbor of Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. If only one ship is expected, it will most likely dock at Muelle Cruceros La Boca De Puerto Naos. In the image, this is the berth with the cruise ship. Here, there is only a large parking lot for buses and taxis; it is 1.7 km to Arrecife.
Slightly further away is the Muelle de los Mármoles, which was extended to 1 km in 2018, allowing several cruise ships to dock one behind the other. Here you will find a tourist information office, rental cars, and bicycles. It is approximately 3 km to Arrecife, which is why shuttle buses (usually for a fee) are mostly offered here.
on foot
From the Muelle Cruceros, you can easily walk the 1.7 km to Arrecife. You reach the pedestrian zone of Arrecife by walking through the marina. Small shops and restaurants make the walk very entertaining.
From the Muelle de los Mármoles, it is significantly further into town at 3 km. The route goes up the pier and then left at the first roundabout onto the Avenida de los Mármoles. From there, follow a small path that leads into the city past a small beach. The route is easy to find using Google Maps.
Shuttle buses
At both docking locations, the cruise lines offer shuttle buses for a fee. From the Muelle de los Mármoles, the shuttle costs approximately €9 for a day ticket, while from the Muelle Cruceros, the ticket is about €7. In both cases, the drop-off point in Arrecife is a parking lot near the inland harbor, Charco de San Ginés.
Rental Car
Several car rental companies have their offices at the Muelle de los Mármoles. The best known are Cicar and Cabrera Medina. We have always had very good experiences with Cicar during all our vacations in the Canary Islands.
Public transport
Lanzarote has a well-developed bus network. However, the bus station (Estación de Guaguas) is located very far from the ports. On the Arrecifebus website, you can also access the timetables in German.
Taxis
Taxis are available at both cruise ports and also offer excursions around the island. On the Taxi Arrecife website, you can view possible tours and their prices in German.
Bikes
For those who enjoy staying active, Baja Bikes is a great choice. Here, you can book guided city tours with local guides.
Hop on Hop off
In Arrecife, there is a red tourist train that runs on two different routes through the city. Adults pay €12, and children up to 12 years old can ride for €6. Both tours last approximately 45 minutes, and you can hop-on and hop-off at any stop. Unfortunately, the trains only run on an hourly schedule.
The top sights
Lanzarote is a very popular destination. Not only do cruise ships dock here, but many tourists also love the mild climate of the Canary Islands. Therefore, queues can occur at the top sights, or tickets may only be available with fixed time slots. For these attractions, it is worth booking a fast-track ticket or a scheduled time slot in advance:
