Nanortalik, with its population of just under 1,100 residents, was our first stop in Greenland. Nanortalik is a charming coastal town with a rugged beauty. Its name means 'Sun Town' or 'Place with Many Polar Ptarmigans' in the local language. The surroundings offer fjords, icebergs, and craggy rocks silhouetted against the sea. The residents appreciate the laconic rhythm of life, which is supported by traditions of hunting, fishing, and crafts.

Nanortalik liegt im grönländischen Süden am Rand des Tasersuatsiaq-Gebietes und wird oft als Tor zu den südlichen Fjorden bezeichnet. Umgeben von Gletschern, Küstenklippen und zerklüfteten Inseln bietet die Stadt eine raue, aber eindrucksvolle Landschaft. Die bunten Häuser scheinen sich an die steilen Hänge zu schmiegen, während Robben- und Walbeobachtungen bereits zum Alltag gehören. Das Klima ist kühl und wechselhaft, dennoch entwickeln sich hier Handwerk, Tourismus und Fischerei.

The Prins Christian Sund is certainly one of the great highlights on a cruise to Iceland and Greenland. The sound is 64 km long and at its narrowest point only 500 meters wide. The passage takes about six to eight hours. The duration depends on the weather conditions and on whether the offshoot to the glacier is navigable.

Der Prins Christian Sund ist sicherlich eins der großen Highlghts bei einer Kreuzfahrt nach Island und Grönland. Der Sund ist 64 KM lang und an seiner schmalsten Stelle nur 500 Meter breit. Die Durchfahrt dauert ca. sechs bis acht Stunden. Die Dauer ist abhängig von den Wetterverhältnissen und davon, ob die Abzweigung zum Gletscher befahrbar ist.

Akureyri liegt am Ende des Eyjafjöðurs, (Inselfjord), der von steilen Bergen umgeben ist, auf denen im Winter Ski gefahren werden kann. Oft wird Akureyri als Hauptstadt des Nordens in Island bezeichnet. Es gibt zahlreiche Geschäfte, Restaurants und Bars.
