Cruiseportguide Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe

For cruise passengers, Pointe-à-Pitre on Grande-Terre is the vibrant gateway to Guadeloupe. Right at the harbor, a modern terminal welcomes you with markets offering spices and rum. Since the butterfly-shaped island has two distinct sides, you have a choice to make: Grande-Terre entices with dreamy, flat sandy beaches like Sainte-Anne, while the mountainous Basse-Terre attracts adventurers with its national park, waterfalls, and the La Soufrière volcano. A particular advantage for Europeans is the infrastructure: you pay in Euros and benefit from a well-developed road network. For those seeking a more relaxed pace, the colonial-style old town of Pointe-à-Pitre is just a few steps away from the ship.

For cruise passengers, the Guadeloupe cruise port is located in Pointe-à-Pitre on the Grande-Terre side of the island. The modern "Centre Saint-John Perse" terminal is extremely central, allowing passengers to reach the city center easily on foot.

The terminal has been redesigned to accommodate two large cruise ships simultaneously. Right at the quay, visitors are welcomed by a lively complex featuring duty-free shops, cafés, and an artisanal craft market. Since Guadeloupe is a French overseas department, the arrival feels much like being in Europe—complete with Euro payments and a high-quality infrastructure.

Due to the central berths in Guadeloupe, no shuttle buses are used.

There are bus connections on Guadeloupe, but these are rather unsuitable for day tourists. The best-developed is the urban network, which covers Pointe-à-Pitre, Les Abymes, Baie-Mahault, Le Gosier, Sainte-Anne, and Saint-François.

There is a taxi stand at the port, where island tours and beach transfers are offered. Fares are negotiated on-site.

To explore the island individually, a rental car is a good alternative. The road network is very well developed, and the most important sights are easy to reach. Many well-known rental car companies have an office at the port:

Those who only want to explore the immediate surroundings can do so very easily with a scooter. The rental company Cubix offers scooters for rent directly at the port.
