Valencia
Valencia is a vibrant city that easily holds its own against Barcelona. Located right on the Mediterranean coast, it is Spain's third-largest city with 800,000 inhabitants. The blend of a beautiful old town, ultra-modern museums, and lovely beaches makes Valencia truly charming. The city is lively and cosmopolitan—as you can see, Barcelona’s 'little sister' has no reason to hide.
There are two passenger terminals within the port. The most frequently used is the Trasmediterránea Terminal, which offers a wide range of services including:
-
Tourist Information
-
Duty-Free Shop
-
Internal Shuttle Bus
-
VIP Lounge
-
Parking
-
Restaurant and Cafeteria
-
Dedicated assistance for cruise passengers
-
Internet access
-
Public transport connections
-
Souvenir shops
Valencia also offers regular ferry connections to the Balearic Islands.
Two additional berths are located slightly further out. At this provisional terminal, facilities are limited to parking for taxis and shore excursion buses; passengers are transported to the main passenger terminal via shuttle buses.
You can find the map of the port on Google Maps here
on foot
Valencia's city center is nearly 6 km (approx. 3.7 miles) from the port, meaning cruise passengers will need to rely on transportation to reach the heart of the city. However, the Oceanogràfic (Aquarium) and the City of Arts and Sciences are only about 2 km away and can easily be reached on foot.
Shuttle buses are provided to transport passengers from the more distant berths to the main passenger terminal. After our city tour, we walked through the Jardín del Turia park all the way to the Aquarium and then back to the port. While this is doable, please be aware that it takes nearly two hours
Shuttle buses
The cruise lines provide shuttle buses to take passengers into Valencia for a fee. You will be dropped off and picked up at the Valencia City Gate (Torres de Serranos), which puts you right at the entrance to the Old Town. This is also where the Turia Gardens (Jardín del Turia) begin. Prices for the shuttle service vary by cruise line, but you should expect to pay around €10 per person.
Public transport
The Port of Valencia is well-connected to the city’s public bus network. The bus stop 'Manuel Soto Ingeniero - Pont de les Drassanes' is located approximately 300 meters from the port, just past the roundabout.
Two main lines operate from here:
-
Line 4 takes you directly to the Old Town, ending at Plaza de la Reina.
-
Line 95 travels via the City of Arts and Sciences to the Old Town, dropping you off right at the City Gate (Torres de Serranos).
hop on hop off
The famous red Hop-on Hop-off buses also operate in Valencia. There are two different routes available:
-
Route A: Historical Valencia
-
Route B: Maritime Valencia
Both routes take approximately 90 minutes to complete and include a total of 21 stops. With a 48-hour ticket, you also receive free admission to San Nicolás Church. You can book your tickets in advance here.
Taxis
Taxis are readily available at the cruise terminal. The city’s largest taxi company is Radio Taxi Valencia. Taxis can also normally be found at the more distant berths. You will find a sign displaying current fares at both the cruise and ferry terminals.
Bikes
For those who enjoy staying active, Baja Bikes is a great choice. Here, you can either rent bicycles or book guided city tours with locals.
Top sights
Valencia is a highly popular destination. In addition to cruise ship passengers, the city welcomes many day-trippers. As a result, long queues can form at the top attractions, and many sites now use fixed time slots for entry. For the following sights, we highly recommend booking a skip-the-line ticket or a reserved time slot in advance:
