Cruiseport Guide Málaga

Málaga

Malaga is located on the Costa del Sol in Andalusia and is considered one of the most beautiful coastal cities in the world. With nearly 600,000 inhabitants, it is the second-largest city in the region. Nevertheless, you can easily explore it on foot.

As the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, the city has much to offer. It provides a fascinating mix of sightseeing, relaxation, great food, and plenty of Spanish flair. Malaga enchanted us immediately

The port

The Port of Malaga is the second most important cruise port in Spain and boasts a 3,000-year history. It has been expanded and now offers space for up to five cruise ships. Large vessels usually dock at Terminals A and B. Smaller ships are often positioned at the Muelle de Levante pier, which is located closer to Malaga's city center. The cruise terminals feature Wi-Fi, several shops, and a tourist information desk.

on foot

Small cruise ships dock right in the city, while larger vessels berth at piers slightly further away. However, even from these locations, it is only two kilometers to the city center. The walk takes you almost entirely along the harbor promenade, where you will find many cafés and shops.

Shuttle buses

The local shuttle bus costs €5 for a round trip. It takes you to Plaza de la Marina. The cruise line's shuttle bus costs approximately eight to ten euros, and the ticket is valid all day for an unlimited number of trips.

Taxis

Taxis are available at all terminals. Malagataxi offers trips to the surrounding areas, such as Marbella.

Public transport

Malaga has a well-developed bus network operated by EMT. The main hub is located at Alameda Principal in the city center. Right next to the main train station is the central bus station, where long-distance buses depart. A single ticket costs €1.30 and can be purchased at tobacco shops (Tabacos). Nowadays, bus tickets can also be paid for directly with the driver using a credit card or mobile phone (contactless payment).

Malaga also has two metro lines that meet at the main train station. Additional lines are planned for the future

Rental car

Car rental companies do not have offices directly at the Port of Malaga. However, providers such as Sixt and Avis have branches at the main train station (María Zambrano). The station is located approximately 1.5 km from the shuttle bus drop-off point.

Bikes

For those who enjoy staying active, Baja Bikes is a great choice. You can either rent bicycles or book guided city tours with local guides. Many of these tours are available in German, as well as English and other languages.

Citysightseeing

The well-known red Hop-on Hop-off buses are also operating in Malaga. You can find stops right at the piers Muelle 1 and 2, and the full tours take approximately 80 minutes. There is also a stop at Plaza de la Marina, where the shuttle buses drop you off. Tickets can be purchased in advance here.
