the port

The cruise port of Portoferraio is located on the Italian island of Elba. It is a popular stop for cruise ships and offers visitors access to historic sites, picturesque beaches, and charming cafes. The port is well-equipped with taxis, bus services, and ferries that allow travelers to explore the island.
In Portoferrario, tendering is required; please keep this in mind when planning your excursions. During our trip with Nicko, the tendering process was very well organized. We were able to obtain tender numbers, which prevented any queues or crowds in the passageways. The tender boats drop you directly in the town.
on foot
The tender boats dock right in the middle of the city. From here, you can easily reach all the sights on foot. Since Portoferraio is situated on a hill, it’s recommended to wear sturdy shoes.
shuttlebuses
In Portoferraio, free shuttle buses operate during the summer months. These connect the port with the old town. The buses run from 07:15 to 14:30 and from 16:40 to 20:00, with a 10-minute interval. The stops are located at the free parking areas on Viale Zambelli.
public transport
The city buses are orange, while the regional buses are blue. The regional buses on main routes 71 and 72 operate very frequently. The Marebus transports guests to the beaches.
